Organized religion

Timmy and Nikki's mom (does everyone call her Renee? I feel kinda funny saying that so I guess I'll just go with Mrs. Bell) both mentioned their dislike of organized religion in comments to a LJ entry I made, and I wanted to mention how I feel about it.

I think both of them mentioned organized religion as being a product of man, but I don't think that's exactly right. God invites people to gather together in His name for a number of reasons. In Hebrews he simply says to not give up the habit of meeting together. And while, yes, I agree that there are a lot of problems with organized religion, especially church politics and anything that has to do with money, I still think that it is better to have it than to not. I think that it's vitally important for Christians (and this probably goes for most religions but I'm just going to be specific to mine for the moment) to have a community of people who believe the same as they do. And I have especially come to understand the importance of this now, when I am not as immersed in a community as I usually am at CURF. Having other people around you who support your faith is vital to growing in a relationship with Christ. At CURF I have so many opportunities to be with people who help my faith to stay strong and grow: Bible studies, daily chapel, Fish, devos and prayer with friends, pastors who are available often to answer questions or help in whatever way they may be needed. This is why church is so important even though it is so overlooked. And no, no church is perfect, and CURF is far from perfect as well. Yes, what God has made man in his sinful nature has screwed up. No matter where you go in the world you will find religion obscured by sin. But I think the benefits of organized religion outweigh the negatives. I think it's much more important to have the support of others in your faith with the faults than to give up on it altogether because it doesn't always work out the way it's supposed to. And that's how I feel.
